Stadium food as a reason to travel
In Japan, some fans choose which game to attend based on which stadium has the best food that week. Stadium gourmet ("sta-gru") has become its own culture. Here are the five stadiums where the food alone justifies the trip.
1. ES CON Field (NPB β Fighters, Sapporo)
30+ restaurants. Craft brewery on site. Jingisukan, seafood bowls, Sapporo ramen, and local produce at the farmer's market. It's a food destination with baseball attached. Nothing else in Japan comes close.
2. Todoroki Stadium (J-League β Frontale, Kawasaki)
Voted J-League's best stadium food every year. Local Kawasaki restaurants create match-day-only dishes. Gourmet burgers, international cuisine, creative specials. Arrive 90 minutes early and eat your way through the stalls.
3. MAZDA Stadium (NPB β Carp, Hiroshima)
Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki cooked in front of you. Oysters from the Inland Sea. Carp Udon. BBQ terraces where you grill while watching baseball. Regional food at its best.
4. Jingu Stadium (NPB β Swallows, Tokyo)
Not the widest selection, but the craft beer lineup alone puts it here. IPAs, wheat beers, pale ales. Open-air drinking under the Tokyo sky while watching baseball is a vibe that no dome can replicate.
5. Fukuda Denshi Arena (J-League β JEF United, Chiba)
The dark horse. Small stadium, big flavors. Local Chiba restaurants bring sausage platters, fresh seafood, and homemade curry. Quality punches above its weight class.
How to buy tickets
