Sapporo Dome Guide: Watching Consadole Sapporo Football in Hokkaido

πŸ“– 8 min readπŸ“Sapporo Dome

Indoor football in northern Japan

Sapporo Dome is one of the few venues where you can watch outdoor sport indoors. The 41,000-seat dome was built for the 2002 World Cup and now hosts Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo's J-League home matches. In a city where winter temperatures drop to -10Β°C, the dome makes football possible year-round.

Since the Fighters left

The Nippon-Ham Fighters moved to ES CON Field in 2023. Sapporo Dome's primary tenant is now Consadole Sapporo. The stadium's future is being debated, but for now it offers a unique indoor J-League experience.

Getting there

Subway Toho Line to Fukuzumi Station, then 10-minute walk. From Sapporo Station: about 15 minutes by subway. The subway system means snow never affects your commute to the game.

Seats and prices

Main stand: Β₯4,000-6,000 ($27-40). Back stand: Β₯3,000-4,500 ($20-30). Goal end: Β₯2,000-3,000 ($13-20). The 41,000-seat capacity means tickets are generally available.

Sapporo food

Sapporo miso ramen (the original β€” thick, rich, topped with butter and corn). Genghis Khan (jingisukan β€” grilled lamb on a dome-shaped grill). Sapporo Beer (visit the Sapporo Beer Museum for a factory tour). Kaisendon (fresh seafood rice bowl at Nijo Market).

Winter sports combo

February: Sapporo Snow Festival + Consadole match + skiing at Niseko (2 hours away). A unique sports trip you can't do anywhere else in Japan.
